Severe Storm, Tornado Threats Loom Over Pittsburgh Area

PITTSBURGH, PA — Relief from the oppressive heat is on the way in Southwestern Pennsylvania, but some potentially hazardous storms could arrive before it occurs.
The National Weather Service says there is a chance of severe storms in the region from 1 p.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday.
Damaging winds, large hail, flash flooding and isolated tornadoes are possible.

After high temperatures reached the mid-90s, on Monday, the anticipated precipitation should keep today's highs around 90.
That's still hot enough for the city of Pittsburgh to activate cooling centers at senior centers in Beechview, Brighton Heights, Greenfield, Homewood, Sheraden and the South Side. The cooling centers will be open until 7 p.m.
