Slow Goings On Pittsburgh's Grandview Avenue?

Find out what's in the works to reduce speeding on the busy Mt. Washington thoroughfare.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Big plans are afoot for Grandview Avenue, one of Mt. Washington’s main arteries and a popular tourist destination for the spectacular views of the city it provides. The city plans to spend $50,000 for traffic calming measures on the portion of Grandview where overlooks are located.

The South Pittsburgh Reporter reported seven speed bumps about 250 feet apart will be placed between Merrimac and Wyoming streets. The initiative was discussed at a recent Mt. Washington Development Corp. community meeting.

In addition to the speed bumps, the city also is mulling curb extensions and pedestrian refuge islands along Grandview. The street’s current speed limit is 25 mph, but Mt. Washington residents long have complained about motorcycles and vehicles traveling much faster than that.
