Snow Squalls Possible For Pittsburgh Area, Weather Service Warns
Friday could bring hazardous whiteout conditions to the region.

PITTSBURGH, PA — It will be nothing like the deluge that is piling up feet of snow in Buffalo at the moment. But the National Weather Service is warning that potentially hazardous snow squalls are possible today in the Pittsburgh area.
A snow squall is a sudden moderately heavy snowfall accompanies by strong winds. They can appear quickly and cause whiteout conditions that can create perilous driving conditions for motorists.
"Locally brief heavy snow is possible," the weather service warned in issuing an early-morning advisory on Friday. "The heavy snow could result in rapid reduction in visibility, and a quick accumulation of snow on roads, creating hazardous travel conditions. Keep alert and use caution if
traveling today."

Any squalls should not trigger significant accumulation. The weather service predicts less than one inch of snow will fall today.
A crossing cold front could bring bands of heavy snow showers during the late morning and afternoon hours. A couple of these could necessitate the issuance of statements or Snow Squall Warnings. Remember: there is no safe place on the road during a snow squall! pic.twitter.com/OqQ8Bw3mX2
