Snow Squalls, Travel Hazards Possible In Pittsburgh Area

PITTSBURGH, PA — The rain currently falling in Western Pennsylvania will change to snow showers this afternoon. The National Weather Service is advising that squalls are possible this afternoon and evening, with quick accumulations of an inch or two possible.

Hazardous travel conditions also are possible, according to the weather service.

While snow accumulations are not expected to be significant in the Pittsburgh metro area, significant amounts of snow are expected south and east of the city. Winter storm warnings have been issued for portions of Westmoreland and Fayette counties, with accumulations of as much as six inches possible.

Wind gusts will be as high as 29 mph today, increasing the likelihood of snow squalls.

The high temperature in the Pittsburgh area on Tuesday will only be 32 degrees, but temperatures are expected to moderate later in the week with highs in the low- to mid-40s.
