Soldiers & Sailors Hall To Hold Memorial Day Commemoration
The event won't be entirely solemn, with patriotic musical performances and children's activities planned.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Memorial Day is particularly significant at Oakland’s Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall, and for good reason. It’s the nation’s only memorial and museum dedicated to honoring the men and women of all branches of service and in all capacities - active, reserve and guard.
Soldiers & Sailors once again is inviting people to the facility on Memorial Day to honor and celebrate those in the military who gave their lives for their country. The free community event will occur from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Each year Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum recognizes this national holiday with appreciation and purpose,” said John McCabe, the facility’s president and CEO. “ We invite the community to join us as we maintain the tradition to observe the true meaning of Memorial Day – to honor and remember the men and women who died while serving and made the ultimate sacrifice to our country.”

The commemoration begins with a reflective ceremony in the auditorium honoring nearly 300 Pennsylvania service members who have died in the War on Terrorism. That will be followed by free admission to the museum, a USCT Drum Corps performance and a patriotic concert by the Brass Roots.
There also will be children’s activities such as a bouncy castle and face painting, and a raffle to benefit Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc. Prizes include overnight stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Monroeville, family membership to the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, an official Steelers football, two rounds of golf at Seven Springs Mountain Resort.

“We hope the community finds time during this special day to visit the memorial, explore the museum, and enjoy the many activities happening on our plaza and lawn,” McCabe said.
