The Speckled Egg, located in Downtown's Union Trust Building, is a brunch-lunch spot that also offers cocktails, wines and beer. The restaurant already serves the products of Commonplace Coffee, which has eight independent shops in Pittsburgh and Indiana, PA, where the business first was established.

The addition of The Speckled Egg will help stem the restaurant losses the retail, office and residential complex has sustained in recent years. In addition to bd's, SouthSide Works has bid farewell to Irish pub Claddagh and seafood eatery McCormick & Schmick's, among others.
