PITTSBURGH, PA - Steelers vice president and general manager Kevin Colbert signed a one-year contract extension Wednesday that will keep him with the team at least through the NFL Draft. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Colbert's contract was slated to expire this year's draft, and there had been some speculation that he might retire or move to another organization - possibly the Carolina Panthers, which are owned by former Steelers minority owner David Tepper.

"I am happy to announce we have extended Kevin Colbert's contract for an additional year," Steelers president Art Rooney II. "Kevin continues to play a key role in our success and his dedication to our personnel efforts is unparalleled. We are pleased he will lead those efforts for at least one more year."

Colbert joined the Steelers in 2000 as director of football operations and is in his 10th year as general manager. He helped construct the Super Bowl XL and XLIII championship teams and three AFC Championship teams. During his tenure, the Steelers have won nine division titles, earned 12 playoff berths and had 15 winning seasons.

"It's hard to quantify how fortunate I am to have been part of this organization for the last 20 years," Colbert said. "I look forward to the challenge of getting our team back into playoff contention while never losing sight of our ultimate goal – winning a Super Bowl."
