Steelers Fire Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada
The embattled offensive coordinator was fired Tuesday, the Steelers announced.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Steelers on Tuesday announced the firing of offensive coordinator Matt Canada.
"I appreciate Matt's hard work and dedication, and I wish him the best moving forward in his career," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement announcing that Canada had been relieved of his duties.
Tomlin said at his weekly news conference Tuesday that running backs coach Eddie Faulkner has been named interim offensive coordinator, although quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan will be the primary play-caller.

Asked what he wanted to see after making the change, Tomlin said, ""I just want to see points. I want to engineer victory more fluidly, and points do that."
Canada was in his fourth season with the Steelers. He was hired as the quarterbacks coach in 2020 and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2021, replacing Randy Fichtner.

Canada took the brunt of the criticism for the Steelers' anemic offense during his time as coordinator. Chants of "Fire Canada!" were heard not just at Steelers games but other sporting events such as Penguins games.
The Steelers offense currently is ranked 28th in yards per game, 28th in points per game and 30th in yards per game. Although the team boasts a 6-4 record, it has been outgained in every game this season and has a negative point differential of 29.
The final straw appears to have been the Steelers' lackluster offensive performance in a 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns, who were led by rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
