Steelers Get Approval For Major Acrisure Stadium Upgrade

The 25-year-old Acrisure Stadium is getting a bit of a makeover. Get the details here.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Nearly 18,000 more of Acrisure Stadium's original original seats will be replaced following the upcoming season.

The Pittsburgh Sports & Exhibition Authority on Thursday approved a reimbursement of $5 million to the Steelers-affiliated PSSI Stadium Corp. to pay for 17,873 seats and associated concrete work.

In April 2025, PSSI requested the replacement of 58,719 seats that would occur in phases over a four-year period.

The request came after Stantec, the authority's facility condition assessment firm, reported multiple seats having issues over the past five years.

The initial phase, consisting of replacement of approximately 22,000 seats in the Upper Level East, Upper Level West and North Club of the stadium, will be completed before the start of the coming season.

The next phase will involve the replacement of seats on the east side of the lower bowl.

The new seats will be non-padded "fusion" seats, according to authority documents. Although all of the original seats were gold, 15 percent of the new seats will be grey.

What will happen to the old seats? They will be sold as souvenirs.

The Steelers in May announced a multi-year agreement with MeiGray - a leader in the game-worn and game-used industry - to offer fans and collectors fully authenticated seats from Acrisure.

The seats that are being replaced are original to the stadium, which opened in 2001 as Heinz Field.
