Steelers Set Amazing NFL Record In Win Over Titans

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Steelers 20-16 victory over the Tennessee Titans did more than keep the team above .500 with a 5-3 record. It also put them into the NFL record books.

How so, you ask?

According the the Elias Sports Bureau, the Steelers on Thursday became just the 34th team in NFL history to be out-gained in yardage by every opponent in their first eight games of the season. But they are just the first of those 34 teams to have a winning record registering that dubious accomplishment.

That streak was in jeopardy Thursday as the Titans drove down the field in a last desperate drive to try to win the game. In doing so, the managed to out-gain the Steelers 340 to 326 yards. However, the drive ended when Kwon Alexander intercepted a Will Levis pass to seal the Steelers victory.

Overall this season, the Steelers have been out-gained by 790 yards - nearly by 100 yards per game. Heading into the Titans game, their 271.7 yards per game ranked 30th in the league.
