Study Ranks Nation's Best Football Cities: See How Pittsburgh Fared

A new WalletHub compared 249 U.S. cities with at least one NFL or college football team. Find out here how highly Pittsburgh was ranked.

PITTSBURGH, PA — When it comes to on-field performance, the Steelers disappointed many fans this season with their 10-7 regular season record and first-round playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. But when it comes to Pittsburgh's fondness for football, the city again this season has been ranked as the nation's best.

For the sixth year in a row, financial analytics website WalletHub has topped the Best & Worst Cities for Football Fans list.

"When it comes to the NFL specifically, the Pittsburgh Steelers have some of the most engaged football fans in the country in terms of social media likes and followers per capita," the WalletHub study stated.

"Pittsburgh has some of the most loyal fans, too, measured by ticket revenues, social media engagement, and the home team’s ability to outperform its payroll investments."

WalletHub also credited the Steelers' six Super Bowl wins as contributing significantly to the top ranking. Acrisure Stadium's capacity of more than 68,000 also makes it easy for fans of the Steelers and University of Pittsburgh Panthers, who also play there, to attend games.
