Study Ranks Nation's Best Sports Cities: See How Pittsburgh Fared
A new WalletHub analysis ranked 397 metropolitan areas to determine which ones were the best sports cities.
PITTSBURGH, PA β Some cities have better sports fan bases than others, and a new study proclaims that Pittsburgh has one of the nation's best.
Financial analytics website WalletHub crunched the numbers and determined that Pittsburgh is the nation's third-best sports city in 2023. The city finished only behind Los Angeles and Boston.
The rankings considered more than 50 metrics measuring fansβ support for the five largest sports in the U.S. β football, basketball, baseball, soccer and hockey β using WalletHubβs previous city rankings by individual sport.

Pittsburgh was ranked the country's best football city, second-best hockey town, 11th-best baseball area, 31st-best soccer city and 124th-best basketball town. The city's lack of a professional basketball team undoubtedly contributed to that sport's low ranking.
