SWAT Team Arrests Pittsburgh Man After Hostage Incident Involving Kids

A Pittsburgh SWAT team defused a tense situation involving a man who had threatened to hurt his two young children.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A man is in custody following a tense standoff with a SWAT team Tuesday after he threatened to harm his young children.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at around 3:20 p.m. in an apartment in the 200 block of East Ohio Street on the North Side. A woman outside the apartment said her 21-month-old son and 7-month-old daughter were inside with their father, who entered the apartment after an altercation and was threatening to harm the children.

Negotiators attempted to get the man to surrender, but eventually the SWAT team created a diversion to separate the man from the children and rescue them unharmed. They were reunited with their mother after being examined by medics.
