Target Scouting Possible Downtown Pittsburgh Locations: Report

The retailer could open a smaller than typical Target store Downtown, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Target is looking at locations for a possible Downtown Pittsburgh store, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Citing unnamed real estate sources, the newspaper said the retailer has looked at several Downtown locations, including the Kaufmann’s Grand building at the corner of Smithfield Street and Fifth Avenue. That’s the former Kaufmann’s-Macy’s department store that is being redeveloped into a retail-apartment-hotel complex.

In October, Target opened 11 new smaller stores across the country and said it planned to accelerate the openings of such stores in urban and suburban areas and college campuses.

Target would not confirm to the Post-Gazette that it is considering Downtown site, but a spokeswoman told the newspaper the chain “continuously explores possible locations for new stores in the area.”
