Teen Arrested For Allegedly Bringing Heroin To High School

The drugs were discovered after the student triggered a metal detector.

PITTSBURGH, PA - In the Pittsburgh neighborhood that has had among the most fatal overdoses of any city community during the opioid epidemic, a student was arrested after allegedly attempting to bring 20 stamp bags of heroin to school.

The unidentified student was arrested at Carrick High School after a metal detector was activated as he entered the school Thursday. The suspected drugs were found after the student was searched.

What set off the metal detector is unknown. The teen faces charges in juvenile court as well as discipline by the school.

There have been more than 30 fatal overdoses in Carrick since 2015.Last month, a couple living across the street from the high school was arrested after police arrived at their apartment with a search warrant and found cocaine, marijuana, Xanax and handguns.
