Three Rivers Arts Festival, PrideFest Top Pgh. Weekend Events

PITTSBURGH, PA - It’s time once again for one of the city’s largest events of the year - the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival, which annually attracts more than 500,000 people to Gateway Center, Point State Park and the Downtown Cultural District.

The 10-day event runs from June 7 through June 16. A complete guide to all of the festival’s attractions, events and food possibilities can be found by clicking on the link.

The festival’s musical headliners this weekend on the Dollar Bank Main Stage in Point State Park are India Arie on Friday, Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives on Saturday and Nahko and Medicine for the People on Sunday. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m.

  • PrideFest, June 7-9, Fort Duquesne Boulevard between 7th Street and 9th, Downtown.

The annual festival to celebrate the region’s LGBTQ community has a new location this year, but the format remains the same.Pride Rocks PGH, the ticketed concert events, feature Walk the Moon on Friday and Toni Braxton on Saturday. PrideFEST, which is free, takes place Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Equality march occurs Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and a new free dance party will cap off the event from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.

  • Grease, June 7, 8 p.m.; June 8, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and June 9, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Benedum Center, Downtown

Grease is still the word, and this production of it kicks off the annual Civic Light Opera season at the Benedum. You probably know the tale of the Rydell High School T-Birds, 50s greasers who are remarkably adept at song and dance for being borderline delinquents. Expect to hear all the classic songs like "You're The One That I Want," "Greased Lightning" and "Hopelessly Devoted To You."

One of the nation’s largest Jeep-only events will bring more than 2,300 Jeeps from 33 states and Canada to the campground to celebrate Butler as the birthplace of the Jeep. Ot will include off-road trails, an obstacle course, more than parts and accessories vendors from all over the U.S., history exhibit features Jeeps from the 1980s and decades of Jeep grilles from the 1940s-80s, a WWII encampment with military Jeeps and more. New this year is the Barbee Jeep Race featuring adults racing down a course in ride-on Jeeps. The Jeep Invasion street party occurs sAturday at 6 p.m. on Main street in Butler.

All proceeds from this charitable 5 K will go to the PUMPed to Run program to support homeless walkers and runners at local area shelters to overcome the barriers to athletic participation.
