Tom Hanks' Praise For Pittsburgh Packs Huge Online Punch

Hanks let it be known on Facebook and Twitter he thinks highly of Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Tom Hanks appears to be enjoying his stay in Pittsburgh.

The Academy Award-winning actor, in town filming the Mr. Rogers biopic “You Are My Friend,” gave the city kudos via Twitter and Facebook on Monday evening. On both social media sites, he posted a picture of the rectory of St. Mary of the Mount Church in Mt. Washington, which has a sign in front of it stating, “Love Thy Neighbor - No Exceptions.”

“The spirit of Pittsburgh!” Hanks wrote. “Great town. Hanx.”

Many people seem to agree with Hanks’ assessment. As of Tuesday morning, the tweet had more than 31,000 likes on Twitter and nearly 6,000 like on Facebook.

Hanks seems to have seen plenty of Pittsburgh while filming the movie. In addition to co-hosting a voter rally at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Oakland, he has been spotted at a Penguins game, the Andy Warhol Museum and a Starbucks in Greensburg.

“You Are My Friend," tells the story of the friendship that develops between Rogers, played by Hanks, and a magazine journalist assigned to write a profile of him. The movie is scheduled to be released in October 2019.
