Tornado Threat Returns To Pittsburgh Area Monday

The National Weather Service is forecasting a chance for severe storms and possible tornadoes in southwestern Pennsylvania.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Four days after a major tornado outbreak struck southwestern Pennsylvania and southeastern Ohio, the chance of twisters returns to the area on Monday.

The National Weather Service says severe storms and isolated tornadoes are possible this afternoon and evening. The threats from the storms include damaging winds and hail.

Scattered severe storms could occur south of I-70, while isolated storms are possible north of the interstate.

The weather service issued the severe weather threat via Twitter Sunday night.

No severe weather is expected for the rest of the week. Today will be the warmest day of the week, with high temperatures approaching 70 degrees. With the passing of a cold front, expect a damp Tuesday and cooler temperatures, with highs only in the mid-50s.

Weather service storm survey teams confirmed 10 tornadoes occurred Thursday evening in its Pittsburgh region, which includes northwestern and southwestern Pennsylvania, southeastern Ohio, the West Virginia panhandle and Garrett County in Maryland.
