Trapped Coyote Rescued In Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA —It's a sight not typically seen.

Pittsburgh Animal Care and Control officers recently responded to an unusual situation on Atwood Street in Oakland when a coyote became wedged between two walls in an alley and was unable to free itself.

Officers spent hours working to safely get hold of the frightened animal and eventually succeeded in freeing it. The coyote was then relocated outside the city to a wooded area.

Officers are reminding people that coyotes can be found in urban environments and throughout Pittsburgh neighborhoods, suburbs and parks. They are naturally active during the daylight hours, particularly at dawn and dusk.

If you encounter a coyote:

•Stay visible and make yourself look as large as possible.

•Make plenty of noise to encourage it to move away.

•Never run from a coyote; running can trigger its instinct to chase.
