UPMC Resumes Mask Mandates
The growing number of respiratory ailments has prompted UPMC to return to mask requirements.
PITTSBURGH, PA — UPMC will begin requiring everyone in its health care facilities to begin wearing masks again because of rising rates respiratory illnesses. The mandate goes into effect on Dec. 20.
The requirement applies to all UPMC facilities including hospitals, outpatient facilities and medical offices.
“UPMC is seeing an increase in cases of respiratory viruses, including Covid, influenza and RSV,” the health care conglomerate said in a statement.

“To protect the health and safety of our employees, patients and visitors, everyone in our health care facilities will wear effective masks which reduce transmission of respiratory viruses in health care settings. We will continue to monitor the number of cases in our communities and adjust our protocols as the situation evolves.”
