UPMC To Build Massive New Oakland Hospital
UPMC is unveiling plans for a new hospital to join its existing Oakland medical complex.

PITTSBURGH, PA — UPMC on Tuesday will detail plans for a new 17-story, 636-bed hospital that will be built adjacent to UPMC Presbyterian in Oakland. The UPMC Heart and Transplant Hospital will rise at the corner of Fifth Avenue and DeSoto Street on the old Children's Hospital site.
UPMC is briefing the city planning commission Tuesday on the second of three new hospitals it initially announced in 2017. Construction is continuing on the UPMC Vision and Rehabilitation Hospital adjacent to Mercy Hospital in the city's Uptown section. UPMC also plans to build the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Hospital in Shadyside.
When the three hospitals were first announced, UPMC said its investment in them would total $2 billion.
