UPMC's South Hills Hospital: Site Selected, Plans Unveiled

PITTSBURGH, PA - UPMC has cemented plans for a $190 million, 63-bed South Hills hospital that will be built in Jefferson Hills on Elliott Road at Clairton Boulevard. The medical conglomerate detailed its plans at an open house in the Jefferson Hills borough building.

Construction on the three-story building is slated to begin next spring and be finished by late 2021, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.The 200,000-square foot facility will have 63 beds, an emergency room, helipad and physicians office complex.

UPMC unveiled its latest plans for a South Hills facility nine months after scrapping a proposed $200 million, 90-bed hospital in South Fayette. Earlier plans for a UPMC South Center off Route 51 in Pleasant Hills also never came to fruition.

UPMC’s new facility will be about two miles from Jefferson Hospital, owned by the rival Allegheny Health Network.
