Veterans Day 2021: What's Open, Closed Around Pittsburgh

Find out here if any government offices are open and if public transit service will be impacted by the holiday.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Veterans Day occurs on Nov. 11 and many places will be closed in observance of the holiday. Here's a Patch guide to help you navigate the day around the city:

  • City, county, state and federal offices: Closed.
  • Downtown streets: There will be road closures associated with the Veterans Day
    Parade. Liberty Avenue between 10th and 26th Streets will close at 9 a.m. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. and will march from 10th Street and Liberty Avenue down Liberty Avenue ending at Commonwealth Place. Parking along the parade route and staging area on Liberty will be restricted.
  • Port Authority of Allegheny County: Buses and the T will operate on a normal weekday schedule.
  • Banks: Most are closed, but some supermarket branches will have limited hours.
  • Post offices: Closed. There will be no regular mail delivery.
  • Liquor stores: Open.
  • Schools: Varies depending on school district.
  • Refuse collection: In Pittsburgh communities, pickup will occur as usual. In suburban communities, check with your individual municipality.
  • Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh: Branches will operate on their regular hours.
  • Pittsburgh senior centers: Closed.
  • Pittsburgh recreation centers: Closed.
