Vinyl Tap: Indy Owners To Celebrate National Record Store Day
More than a dozen record stores will get into the groove and mark the occasion.

PITTSBURGH, PA -- Last year to celebrate National Record Store Day, Jerry Weber gave away 20,000 albums in his iconic Jerry’s Records store. He’s not doing anything nearly that crazy on Saturday to celebrate the 10th anniversary of what has become practically an unofficial national holiday.
“I’m getting too old to do what we did last year,” Weber said on Friday with a chuckle. “This time, I’ll be giving away boxes of 45s, and selling some Beatles and indy (artist) 45s at discounted prices.”
Weber is just one of the store owners taking part in an event conceived to celebrate and publicize the nearly 1,400 independent record stores across the country.

It’s marked by many festivities, including the distribution of vinyl and CD releases manufactured just for the day. Dozens of titles are being released exclusively at participating stores, though not all of them will have every title.
