Walgreens Closing Many Stores; Pittsburgh Locations Await Fate
Walgreens has announced it will close a significant number of underperforming stores. Some Pittsburgh locations could be in jeopardy.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The death knell could sound for some Walgreens locations in and around Pittsburgh as the company on Thursday announced plans to close a large number of its stores across the country.
Walgreens did not specify how many of its 8,600 stores would be shuttered or identify their locations. But CEO Tim Wentworth told The Wall Street Journal that a significant share would be affected.
In the company's third quarter results report, released Thursday, Wentworth said, "We continue to face a difficult operating environment, including persistent pressures on the U.S. consumer and the impact of recent marketplace dynamics, which have eroded pharmacy margins.
