Wegmans Announces 2nd Pittsburgh Location

With one Wegmans store already being built in the Pittsburgh area, the supermarket chain has announced plans for a second one.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Plans were announced Thursday for a second Wegmans Food Markets store in the Pittsburgh area to join the one currently under construction in Cranberry.

Wegmans will serve as the anchor tenant of the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon, according to Wegmans and Galleria owner Roadside Development.

Roadside and Wegmans plan to reinvent the two-story, 168,000 square-foot property that originally was built as a Kaufmann's department store and became an indoor retail shopping center in 1988 . When the redevelopment is completed, Wegmans will occupy about 110,000 square-feet of the space.

“For decades, the Galleria has been part of the fabric of the South Hills community. Bringing Wegmans to the former Kaufmann’s site creates an opportunity to build on that history and give residents another reason to make the Galleria part of their everyday lives,” said Jeff Edelstein, President of Roadside Development. “We’re focused on positioning the property for long-term success while honoring the role it has played in the community.”

The store will feature all of Wegmans’ signature departments including produce, seafood, meat, bakery, deli, cheese, and restaurant foods, as well as an extensive selection of wine and beer.

“As we make progress on our first store in the Pittsburgh market in Cranberry Township, we’re thrilled to take another exciting step in the region with the purchase of the Galleria Mall property in Mt. Lebanon,” said Dan Aken, Wegmans vice president of real estate and store planning. “We recognize the significance this property holds for the community and see a tremendous opportunity to give it new life."

Wegmans long had been rumored to be eyeing the Galleria for a second Pittsburgh location. Those rumors intensified last week when AMC announced it was closing its cinemas in the Galleria.

An estimated opening date for the store was not announced. Renovations at the Galleria are expected to begin in 2028; other retailers will remain open during the process.

Wegmans first announced its arrival to the Pittsburgh region in 2025, with plans for a new store in Cranberry. The company broke ground on the approximately 115,000-square-foot store in August, and construction is now underway. The store is expected to open in fall 2027.
