Well-Known Pittsburgh Bar Owner Dies

The operator of a popular Pittsburgh tavern has died. Get the details here.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The staff and patrons of Kelly's Bar and Lounge in East Liberty are mourning the death of owner Caleb "Cobra" Cornell. He died on June 25 at the age of 41.

Cornell, of Garfield, was a veteran of the Pittsburgh tavern and restaurant scene. According to an obituary, he worked at Mad Max and the Harris Grill. He eventually took a job as a manager at Kelly's and ultimately bought the bar, which was known for its wide selection of cocktails.

In addition to owning Kelly's, Cornell was known for forming the punk band Wrath Cobra, which made live appearances nationally and internationally.

Wolfe Memorial, which handled Cornell's arrangements, did not list a cause of death.

Wolfe is accepting contributions in Cornell's memory to support the Kelly's staff during the temporary closure of the bar. As of Tuesday, more than $9,500 in donations had been received.
