Western PA Mother Charged In 12-Day-Old Son's Death

MONONGAHELA, PA — A Washington County woman is facing charges following the death of her 12-day-old son.

Darian Helmantoler, 22, of Monongahela, has been charged with criminal homicide.

First responders called Tuesday to Halmantoler's home for a 12-day-old not breathing found blood coming from the infant's nose, according to court documents. He also had face and neck injuries.

Helmantoler told police she was sleeping with her son, fed the baby a bottle and fell back asleep. She later told police she might have rolled onto the infant.

Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh told WTAE-TV the baby's death was not an accident.

Helmantoler faces a preliminary hearing on Sept. 20.
