PA Teacher, 1 Other Killed In Multi-Vehicle Crash; Man Charged

MERCER COUNTY, PA — A man is facing charges following a three-vehicle crash on Wednesday morning in which two people were killed - including a Western Pennsylvania teacher.

Pennsylvania State Police said the crash occurred around 7:44 a.m. on Sandy Lake Grove City Road in Worth Township.

Police said Aric Abrams, 46, of Clark Mills was driving north on Sandy Lake Grove City Road when his Pontiac Firebird drifted into the southbound lane and struck a Jeep driven by Sandra Marwick, 68, of Sandy Lake.

According to authorities, Aric Abrams of Clark Mills was heading north on Sandy Lake Grove City Road when he drifted into the southbound lane and swiped Marwick's vehicle.

Abrams hit a guide rail after losing control of his vehicle. Marwick also lost control and traveled into the northbound lane, where she hit a third vehicle head on.

Both Marwick and the driver of the third vehicle, Luke Mulford, 28 of Butler, died on the scene.

Abrams was not injured, but faces numerous charges in connection with the incident.

According to court records, those charges include careless driving - unintentional death; homicide by vehicle; reckless driving; driving under the influence of alcohol/controlled substance and homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence.

Abrams faces a preliminary hearing on Aug. 26.

Marwick was an English teacher in the Allegheny-Clarion School District, which posted the following statement Thursday from Superintendent David McDeavitt:

"It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of one of our teachers, Sandra Marwick who was tragically involved in a car accident yesterday morning on her way to work.

"This is an unimaginable loss for her family, the WSTU program, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her. She was a dedicated educator who made a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and colleagues."
