Wintry Air Mass Barreling Towards Pittsburgh Area

PITTSBURGH, PA — Temperatures will climb into the low 60s today before a strong front pushes through the area and brings much colder weather and a chance of snow to the Pittsburgh area for the next several days.

The dramatic change in weather begins today as showers and thunderstorms move into the area along with increasing winds. The chance of precipitation is 100 percent.

Expect extremely windy conditions tonight, with gusts as high as 36 mph in Pittsburgh and gusts nearing 40 mph east and south of the city.

For Thursday, the National Weather Service calls for rain mixed with snow showers before turning to all snow. Little to no accumulation is expected. The high temperature will be in the low 40s.

Snow showers will continue Thursday night, with accumulations of less than a half-inch possible. Expect more snow and rain on Friday, again with accumulations of less than half and inch. The high again will be in the low 40s.

A quarter inch of snow is possible on Friday night.

A winter storm watch is in effect in areas east of the city, where as much as six inches of snow could fall between Thursday and Saturday.
