WPXI-TV Reporter Discloses Cancer Diagnosis

The veteran reporter has been at the station for more than a decade.

PITTSBURGH, PA — WPXI-TV reporter Cara Sapida has revealed she is battling breast cancer. She made the announcement Tuesday on social media.

"I’m praying one of these mornings soon enough I will be healed," Sapida wrote on Facebook. "And that by sharing this story and my journey maybe I’ll reach a woman who needs to hear it. Maybe you’re doing a self check right now, or picking up the phone to schedule a mammogram in your 30’s. Maybe you’re in the midst of a breast cancer journey right now and can relate. Let’s be
strong together."

According to WPXI's website, Sapida joined the station in April 2009. She also has worked as a reporter for for NBC-2 in Fort Myers, Florida, and as an anchor/reporter for NBC25 in
Hagerstown, Maryland. She began her broadcasting career reporting and anchoring for WOUB-TV in Athens, Ohio.

Sapida has received an Edward R. Murrow award for Best Feature Story, as well as an AP award for tornado coverage.

The Pittsburgh native is a Woodland Hills High School graduate and obtained a journalism degree from Ohio University’s Scripps School of Journalism.
