Plum Council Notebook: March Voting Meeting

Plum Council is reporting a $290,000 surplus from its 2010 income statement.

The borough brought in $11.1 million last year, compared to $10.5 million in 2009. Expenses equaled $10.8 million in 2010, compared to 10.3 million the year before.

Some of the additional revenue came from increased earned income tax and borough fees for new housing and developments, said finance chairman Michael Dell.

Additional expenses came from staffing another full-time employee and computer upgrades in the borough building, Dell said. 

Channel 19

Plum Council has purchased new equipment for the channel 19 borough television station.

There will be periodic channel outages during installation, borough manager Michael Thomas said.

“In order to install new equipment, there’s just no way around it,” he said.  

Kane Road YMCA Construction

Council unanimously approved an agreement with the East Suburban Family YMCA for traffic improvements at the Kane Road and Route 286 intersection.

The YMCA, which is expanding, needs to change parking patterns within its facility, Thomas said.

The facility will be responsible for providing a traffic study and installing improvements, and it will be liable for changes made at the intersection, council members said.

McMeekin Not Seeking Re-election

Council Member Charles McMeekin announced that he will not be running for re-election.

“It was my choice not to run for re-election,” McMeekin said.

McMeekin has served two consecutive four-year terms, and said he feels strongly about elected officials having term limits.

He told council to consider passing an ordinance to enforce term limits for all elected council members.
