Plum Mail to Be Delivered From Monroeville
The Plum post office is making service changes as part of the United States Postal Service's efforts to save money.

The Plum post office will have its mail delivery services moved to the Monroeville branch starting in early March in effort to cut costs.
United States Postal Service representatives said the change should not cause mailing delays to residents.
The only noticeable change will be with mail packages that require a signature, USPS spokesman Tad Kelley said.

Since the two offices are consolidating services, packages being sent to Plum residents will be dropped off at the Monroeville post office.
The office will then notify the resident that it has received a package, and the resident can either pick it up in Monroeville or have it sent to his or her address, Kelley said.

The retail operations of the Plum post office will remain untouched, he said.
There will be no jobs loss for the service consolidation, Kelley said.
“United States Postal Service has never had a layoff,” he said.
The service consolidation is just one way in which USPS is trying to save money by cutting costs, Kelley said, as the agency has experienced a 20 percent annual decrease in services over the last four years.
“Loss of volume means loss of revenue, so we have to capture money wherever we can,” he said.
The agency saved $3 billion in the 2010 fiscal year by cutting costs, Kelley said.
He did not say, however, how much USPS would save by consolidating Monroeville and Plum mail.
