Plum Robotics Team Named 'Grand Champions' at Nationals

Members of the are coming home winners from nationals.

The team competed in the 2012 National Robotics League Championships in Indianapolis, IN, over the weekend.

Martin Griffith, one of the team's coaches, said the group took the title of Grand Champion, which was based on documentation, teamwork and overall placement.

The team placed second overall. They also won a certificate for best documentation, a $500 check for their performance and a 20-Volt drill.

"They did a fantastic job," Griffith said. "These guys work really well together. The parents are very proud, and I am very proud. They did an excellent job."

The National Tooling and Machining Association founded the National Robotics League, which partners teams of middle school, high school, and post-secondary school students with local NTMA manufacturers to work together to build robots designed to battle.

Plum High School's eight-member went against teams from 16 other schools throughout the country—the teams won district and regional rounds to qualify for the national competition. Plum used four robots in battle matches—Shocker, Atomic Shock, Still in Shock 2 and Blackout.

Still in Shock 2 made it to the finals against UC3 from Maplewood, MN, according to the NRL's Twitter page.

In 2009, took first place in the national competition. They took third place in 2010.
