Plum School Board to Discuss PSSA Scores Next Month

District officials will present how district students fared on the state test.

Pennsylvania System of School Assessment test scores are in, and Plum officials will discuss them at length next month.

School board member Sal Colella is urging residents to attend the Aug. 9 education committee meeting, where the scores will be discussed.

"As always, there's some good, there's some average and there are some things we need to improve on," he said. "We need to develop a root-cause analysis to find out where we're going wrong and what is good."

Colella said the district needs to discover the best practices for students to help them excel in necessary areas.

He said officials will discuss having an eight-period school day versus the current nine-period day to promote more learning time in the classroom.

"We don't want to keep going up and down on the trampoline," Colella said. "We want to smooth things out.

"August is going to be a pivotal month."

School board member Andy Drake said officials must work to create a strategic financial plan to best allocate the district's resources in a way that promotes and supports education.

The education committee will meet immediately after a 6 p.m. special voting meeting at the administration conference room at Plum High School.
