Melasma - I can't get rid of these spots!!
Recipe for face masks to help clear up Melasma (otherwise known as "the pregnancy mask").

So I was reading an article today about Melasma (also called the "pregnancy mask"). One of the things that the article said was that melasma can be caused by certain medication. On the list was "anti-malaria" drugs. Turns out, one of the medications I take is an anti-malaria drug - not because I have malaria mind you. ;)
Anyway, I have had these dark spots on my face for a long time. They got worse with my pregnancy. I was a sun worshiper when I was younger, but have been trying to be super careful these days. I've always thought that my melasma was because of prior sun damage. Now I'm wondering if these spots aren't going away because of my medication. On today's list of things to do I've added "call Dr. Stone to change medication".
Here are some other tips for reducing melasma:

- exfoliate regularly
- use sunscreen every day - SPF 30 or higher
- eat high anti-oxidant foods like blueberries, blackberries, and red grapes
- drink plenty of water
- avoid refined sugar
- get your daily does of Vitamin C
Here are two home recipes that I found that I'm definitely going to try:
- 2 spoons of Gram Flour
- add some tumeric
- juice of half a lemon
Mix ingredients together into a paste. Apply the mask for 20 minutes 4 to 5 times a week.

The other recipe is: mix lemon juice or apple cider vinegar into a scrub cleanser. Clean your skin in ciruclar motion, paying special attention to the dark areas. Only do this 2-3 times / week as lemon can be drying. Always wear SPF with this method.
The second recipe seems easier, I think I'm going to try that one. Let me know what you think.
