For six months in 1876, Fairmount Park welcomed visitors from around the world to celebrate the nation’s 100th birthday. The Centennial Exposition ushered in an age which would see America become an economic, political, and technological superpower. As a combination museum, bazaar, zoo, park, art gallery, architectural display, patriotic celebration and promotional exhibition, the 1876 Centennial Exposition continues to fascinate scholars and laymen alike.
