Ukrainian Festival

The Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center (UECC) is sponsoring an outdoor Ukrainian Fest on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 700 Cedar Road in Jenkintown, Pa. from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. followed by a zabava in the Main Hall. The purpose of this event is to promote and share our beautiful Ukrainian heritage with the entire Abington Township and neighboring communities. It is also planned to attract an audience of all ages. Ukrainian Fest Committee has enlisted scores of volunteers and youth organizations to make this first annual fundraising event a success. We are expecting a large turn-out. All are invited!

The festival will feature two dazzling stage performances at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. showcasing the famed Voloshky Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, the Voloshky School of Ukrainian Dance, and performers from the Ukrainian American Youth Association (CYM), delicious homemade Ukrainian food, carnival and picnic food items, a Ukrainian beer garden, vendors, Ukrainian folk art exhibits and demonstrations by master craftsmen in pysanky, gerdany, weaving, and wood-carving, a bandura demonstration, and delightful activities for the children including Moon Bounce, games, face-painting and much more, as well as live music throughout the event by the Cheremosh Band. Silent auctions on beautiful baskets filled with exciting gifts, "50/50" raffles drawn hourly, and other prizes will provide additional excitement.

UECC is also proud that story-teller Luba Chornodolsky of Baltimore will present and narrate her delightful award-winning seven diorama exhibit of Ukrainian folk tales in the Club Room of UECC. Each series of the seven dioramas with puppets (dolls and animals in Ukrainian clothing) depicts a scene from a Ukrainian tale and teaches a lesson. This exhibit will enchant both children and adults alike.
