Plymouth Whitemarsh football is 2-1 heading into Friday's game against Wissahickon High School

What would happen?

That was the lingering question coach Dan Chang had last Friday when his team took the field against West Chester Henderson, known for its upset Ridley in the first round of last year’s District 1 Class AAAA playoffs.

“I think the emphasis during last week’s practice is we had to play 100-percent every play, because we took a play off here and there in our loss against Abington,” he said. “To beat West Chester Henderson, 20-0, that was a good win for us. This gives us a little bit of confidence moving forward. When we’re okay and on our game, we can do some good things. We have to worry about what we’re doing, not what anyone else is doing. That’s the key.”

Chang has been very pleased with the play of 6-foot-3, 230-pound junior defensive end/offensive tackle Ryan Lunney. He’s helped the defense continue to play the kind of attacking style Chang likes.

“Ryan is one of these guys we’ve been waiting for to come on, and he’s gotten dramatically better each week this season,” he said. “He’s starting to do good things for us. I don’t think Ryan was aware of the player he could be, but he understands our expectations now and things are starting to click with him.”
