PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — Former Montgomery County Commissioner Ken Lawrence Jr. has been re-elected as the chair of SEPTA's board of directors, board members voted recently.

Lawrence has served on the SEPTA board since 2011. He was named vice chair in 2021 and was put at the helm in 2024.

"Serving on the SEPTA Board of Directors is a privilege and public service," Lawrence shared. "Grateful for the confidence and the support of our bipartisan, regional board members who also volunteer their time and talent to support the SEPTA workforce, our riders and public transit in Southeastern PA."

“I was able to see firsthand the dedication, passion, and knowledge that my constituent Ken has for our district while he served as the first Black Montgomery County commissioner," State Rep. Greg Scott said this week. “I know that with Ken’s re-election, the SEPTA board is in good hands as it navigates the future of transit in Montgomery County and beyond."

Scott specifically pointed to pending legislation, House Bill 1364, which would increase the state's funding in public transit.

“I’m putting my full weight behind this issue because of leaders like Ken being in place at SEPTA," Scott added.

Prior to moving into a leadership role at SEPTA, Lawrence served as Montgomery Commissioner from 2017 to 2023, leading the county through the coronavirus pandemic.

Lawrence will serve another term as SEPTA chair alongside Chester County Commissioner Marian Moskowitz, who is vice chair.
