The fire began at about 10:30 p.m. and displaced 18 residents residents from their apartments, according to fire officials.

Plymouth Fire Company Number 1 and Harmonville Fire Company were among the first responders on the scene that was soon filled with engines and emergency personnel from dozens of surrounding municipalities.

Many firefighters were still dressed in Halloween outfits, as they had recently taken their children out trick-or-treating.

The fire broke through the initial fire wall established by the first crews on the scene, according to scanner audio from the evening. Firefighters aggressively combated the lethal blaze and were eventually able to get it under control.

It ultimately took crews two and a half hours to put out the fire, fire officials said.

The victim allegedly saw other residents leave via a fire truck’s ladder propped up against the building, but went back into the conflagration to find her hound, according to the report.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Red Cross is seeking temporary shelter for those displaced by the fire.
