A Pennsylvania Turnpike employee was killed on the roadway Monday morning in an accident involving an overturned tractor-trailer.

The accident occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the Turnpike in Plymouth Township, near the Ridge Pike overpass.

Turnpike spokesperson Mimi Doyle said the man was doing "routine maintenance work on the side of the road" when the accident took place. She said she could not yet identify the employee or provide any details on the circumstances of the accident, which remained under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police. Two other people were reportedly injured in the crash. The eastbound lanes of the roadway remained closed Monday afternoon.
