Norristown Man Faces Criminal Homicide In Fatal Plymouth Overdose

A Norristown man faces criminal homicide charges after a 39-year-old Plymouth man overdosed on the fentanyl he was sold.

PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — A Norristown man is facing charges of criminal homicide after the fentanyl he sold led to the overdose death of a Plymouth Meeting man, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

Adam Paravati, 37, of Norristown, faces charges of drug delivery resulting in death and related counts after the death of Plymouth's Gregory Poper, aged 39, in September.

Poper purchased what he thought was heroin from Paravati on Sept. 18 at around 8 p.m., the DA's Office said. After delivering the drugs, Paravati sent Poper a text message warning him: "Yo take it easy on that its good," which police said reflects Poper's knowledge of what the drugs actually contained. Fentanyl is a extremely potent opioid, widely considered to be up to 50 times deadlier than street-level heroin.

Poper was found in a residence on Red Rowan Lane in Plymouth Meeting at around 8:37 p.m., authorities said. He was lying on the master bathroom's floor, dead.

Near the body, police found 11 blue paper bags used to package heroin, the DA said.

Paravati was arrested after an undercover investigation in which a detective used Poper's cell phone to arrange another drug buy, according to authorities.

The DA's Office said that Paravati's arrest marks the eighth charge for drug dealing resulting in death in the county in 2017.

Paravati was arraigned on Wednesday and bail was set at $500,000. He was remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 30.

Assistant DA Tonya Lupinacci will lead the prosecution.
