Playoff Picture Coming Into Focus for Colonial Football

With a four-game winning streak, Plymouth Whitemarsh football is closer to their post season goals.

For Plymouth Whitemarsh, the goal has been the same since players were organizing practices in August: make the PIAA District 1 Class AAAA playoffs. After beating Upper Dublin 23-7 on Thursday, the Colonials are getting closer to that goal.

Five weeks into the season, the Colonials are tied for sixth place in the District 1 Class AAAA point standings with Quakertown. But after Quakertown’s 37-13 loss to Central Bucks South, Plymouth Whitemarsh is in a firmer position among the top five average point totals.

By November 5, the 16 teams with the highest point average will qualify for the District 1 playoffs. The eight teams with the highest point average will host the first round games. The same format will prevail for the following three weeks. Play begins the weekend of November 11.

Against Upper Dublin, Plymouth Whitemarsh used the big play to win. Quarterback Russhon Phillips scored on a 60-yard touchdown, and Xavier Ellington took off for another long score, ripping through the Cardinals defense on a 43-yard run.

“That’s been the one main goal we have this season, making the district playoffs,” Ellington said. “With what we experienced last year, and what we have back, it’s something we feel can happen.”
