Plymouth Family Of Homeless Vet Beaten To Death Launches Fundraiser

"We hope something positive can come from his death," his family said, noting they wanted to launch a campaign to help the Philly homeless.

The Plymouth family of a homeless veteran beaten to death on the streets of Philadelphia has launched a fundraiser to help defray the cost of his funeral and to help create a campaign to help clothe the city’s homeless during the winter months.

Bobby Barnes, 51, was beaten with a hammer and with fists in the Olney neighborhood in April, and succumbed to his brutal injuries in November.

His familiy said the following about him in their online fundraiser:

Bobby was a sensitive, kind man with a great sense of humor and a penchant for helping others before helping himself. That kindness extended to homeless people, as well. Bobby’s death has left an emptiness within his family and beyond.

While the case against Bobby’s attackers remains in the judicial system, we need financial help to defray the costs of his funeral. We also hope that something positive can come from Bobby’s death and will soon launch a campaign to provide the homeless in Philadelphia with sneakers and boots as the cold winter months approach.

Any monies raised through this campaign will be used to give Bobby the funeral arrangements befitting a man who was taken from this world unnecessarily at the hands of criminals and to help launch the shoes for the homeless campaign in his honor.

They have already raised a total of $2,393 from 43 people in four days. Their goal is $10,000.
