Colonial School District released the following statement in regard to what it called a “social media incident”:

Wednesday Plymouth Whitemarsh High School was contacted by an anonymous parent who asked that they investigate a possible “sexting” incident. Preliminary investigation suggested that there was a drop box account that included some inappropriate pictures of students. The administration immediately contacted the Whitemarsh Police who are in the process of investigating this incident. The District has and will continue to fully cooperate with the police.

Note that prior to the report of this incident, the high school had arranged for the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office to present assemblies to students on the inappropriate use of social media. Those sessions are scheduled for December 3 and 7.

It’s not the first incident of its kind of pop up in suburban Philadelphia school districts in recent weeks.

On November 3, middle school students in the Tredyffrin-Easttown school district were busted for sharing nude images of girls in their class, in one case at least as revenge.

Over the summer, a North Penn graduate was arrested for allegedly collecting and sharing nude photos of girls at his high school, many of them under 18.

Anyone with information on the Plymouth Whitemarsh case is asked to contact the Whitemarsh Township Police Detective Division immediately at 610-825-6530.
