Whitemarsh Family Attempts To Rebuild After Devastating Fire

WHITEMARSH, PA — A Whitemarsh family is trying to rebuild their life after losing everything in a tragic fire last week, including their dog and cat.

More than $13,000 has been raised in a GoFundMe for Beth and Mark Dundon in just a matter of days, with 119 donations as of early Wednesday.

"In a matter of hours, they lost not only their house and belongings but also their beloved pets, who were cherished members of their family," the fundraiser reads. "The heartbreak and shock have been overwhelming, but the outpouring of support from neighbors, friends, and first responders has been a true light in this dark time."

The fire occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 on the 700 block of Germantown Pike.

The winds significantly fueled the fire, officials said, and challenges were compounded by the below-freezing temperatures.

The blaze was large and rapidly spreading when crews first arrived, spreading on the south side of the home, officials said. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines to attack the blaze, while ladders were used to gain access to the home to search for residents.

Two firefighters were burned while searching the home, while a third slipped on ice and suffered a shoulder injury.

The fundraiser says the money raised will go towards shelter, clothing, and other basic necessities, while 10 percent of funds will be donated back to Whitemarsh Fire and Ambulance.

"We are so, so grateful to everyone who has shown up, reached out, and helped out–especially the amazing volunteers at Whitemarsh Fire Department, Whitemarsh Ambulance Association, and all the local departments who responded with such speed, professionalism, and compassion," the fundraiser adds.

The cause of the fire is not yet clear and remains under investigation
