Montco donates school supplies to Pottstown Middle School (pottsmerc.com subscription) — Pottstown Middle School just received about 2,400 donated school supplies, including backpacks, notebooks, and even an AV projection system, from Montgomery County's annual Back to School Donation Drive. County commissioners joined students and staff to carry in the boxes, and additional supplies from the drive are being shared with families in county Health and Human Services programs.
2. Open Hearth's Pickleball Palooza Brings Halloween Fun to Pottstown (mychesco.com) — Families in Pottstown can spend Oct. 29 playing pickleball in costume while supporting Open Hearth's work helping local households stay housed and financially stable. The Pickleball Palooza at Fit Life Fitness on West Schuylkill Road runs 6–9 p.m., with contests, spectator tickets, and free admission for children, all benefiting neighbors facing homelessness and money troubles.
3. Pilot hospitalized after crashing World War II-era plane at Pennsylvania airport (washingtontimes.com) — A World War II–era training plane crashed and overturned at Heritage Field Airport in Pottstown, sending the pilot to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a brief flight toward Quakertown. Local fire crews freed the trapped pilot, contained leaking fuel, and used a crane to right the aircraft, wrapping up operations late Wednesday night.
4. Pine Forge Academy celebrates 80 years (pottsmerc.com subscription) — Pine Forge Academy just marked its 80th anniversary by hosting a large cheek-swab drive to grow the bone marrow registry, especially for people of color. An organizer now hopes to bring similar testing events to Pottstown around upcoming fall holidays, aiming to get more local residents registered as potential lifesaving donors.
