📰 News we're reading

• Tower Health Reports $8.5 Million Profit, First Since 2017 (montco.today) — Tower Health has finally posted a small operating profit, but Pottstown Hospital will lose about 120 jobs even after future hiring tied to emergency and behavioral health expansions. Local residents face fewer inpatient services after last year's ICU and cancer unit closures, while a new Jefferson Health affiliation aims to bring more specialty care as admissions and revenue at Pottstown decline.

• Small-scale data center eyed for Coventry Mall in North Coventry (pottsmerc.com subscription) — North Coventry officials will weigh a proposed data center inside the former Coventry Mall, a project facing questions over zoning, missing studies, and whether it truly qualifies as a public service facility. The debate unfolds as Pottstown and neighboring townships in the regional planning committee rush to tighten data center rules before a key protection expires next July, potentially reshaping future development around town.

• High school football: Pottsgrove eager to start fresh following injury-riddled 2025 season (pottsmerc.com subscription) — Pottsgrove's football team is gearing up for a rebound 2026 season that includes a key Sept. 25 matchup against rival Pottstown. With a seasoned quarterback, a largely intact offensive line, and young skill players stepping up after last year's injuries, coaches and players say stronger chemistry and an easier 4A path could put them back in PAC Frontier contention.
