July 4 Fireworks Returning To Radnor For Nation's 250th

It's been nearly a decade since Radnor Township had a Fourth of July fireworks show.

RADNOR, PA — For the first time in almost a decade, Radnor Township with celebrate the Fourth of July with fireworks.

Radnor's Board of Commissioners authorized township staff to plan a fireworks show for the nation's 250th birthday through a resolution passed at Monday's meeting.

Key details, including the event location, have not been determined. The resolution, which Patch first reported last week, gives township staff about a month to finalize the plans.

"In the interest of full transparency, there are details we still have to figure out," said Township Manager William White. "We wanted to make sure we had board support before we got rolling too far down the hill too fast."

The township last held Independence Day fireworks in 2018, which were presented by the Radnor High School Scholarship Fund.

For over 30 years, the gathering generated major funds for the organization. But after a few years of bad weather, the fireworks event lost money, according to the Delco Times.

The annual fireworks were discontinued in 2019.

Radnor Township will celebrate "America250" in other ways too, including a public mural in Downtown Wayne.

The mural will honor historic Radnor sites and the Wayne skyline, says Molly Gallagher, the township's public information officer. It will be painted on the commercial building at 118 W Lancaster Ave., which is highly visible from the street.

Main Line Mural Arts, a nonprofit, will select an artist and maintain the wall for the mural's expected life of 10 to 15 years, Gallagher on Monday.

The Garrett Hill-Rosemont 4th of July Parade, a Radnor Township tradition, will also take place this year.
